15 Animal Idioms (Part 1)

Welcome back to my blog.

Now I'll explain about 5 idioms related with animals that are very common in Indonesia.

1.            Air mata buaya (crocodile tear)
A false, insincere display of emotion; false tear.
The phrase derives from an ancient belief that crocodiles shed tears while consuming their pray.


Example:
Jangan percaya, tangisan wanita itu hanya air mata buaya.


2.            Buaya darat (inland crocodile)
A playboy; a man who likes to play with a lot of girls.

Example:
Rojali itu buaya darat, jangan percaya janji manisnya.


3.            Cinta monyet (monkey love)
Puppy love; romantic love that a young person feels for someone else, which usually disappears as the young person becomes older.

Example:
Gadis itu adalah cinta monyetku.


4.            Bagaikan anjing dan kucing (like a dog and a cat)
Two people who are quarrelling frequently.

Example:
Pasangan itu bagaikan anjing dan kucing.


5.            Jinak-jinak merpati (tame dove)
Play hard to get; to pretend that you are less interested in someone that you really are as a way of making them more interested in you.

Example:

Pria dibuat bingung karena wanita suka bermain jinak-jinak merpati.
