5 Indonesian abbreviations you should know about Covid-19

I hope you are doing well when you read this.

 

If you live in Indonesia, I’m sure you have heard these new abbreviations about Covid.

 

1.   ODP (Orang Dalam Pemantauan) = Person Under Supervision

 

An ODP is a person, that usually has mild symptoms such as cough, sore throat, fever and short of breath.

 

A person who had a trip to areas that are infected with coronavirus, could also be categorised as an ODP.

 

An ODP is usually asked to be self-isolate/self-quarantine at home for 14 days.

 

 

2.   PDP (Pasien Dalam Pengawasan) = Patient Under Supervision

 

This is a person who has symptoms such as cough, sore throat, fever and short of breath.

 

A person who had a trip to areas that are infected with coronavirus, or had contact with someone with Covid-19.

 

A PDP should be isolated, usually in a hospital.

 

 

3.   OTG (Orang Tanpa Gejala) = Asymptomatic Person

 

OTG is a person who is detected with the virus with no development of symptoms. However, this person can still pass the virus on to others.

 

 

4.   PSBB (Pembatasan Sosial Berskala Besar) = Large-Scale Social Restrictions

 

PSBB is restrictions that are implemented by local governments with the approval of the Ministry of Health.

 

It includes measures such as closing public places, restricting public transport, and limiting travel to and from the restricted regions.

 

This rule is applied to suppress cases and prevent transmission of the corona virus.

 

 

5.   APD (Alat Pelindung Diri) = Protective Equipment

It’s a protective equipment to medical workers, such as masks, gloves, face shields, and hazmat suits to better safeguard the medical workers against the disease.
